Grief has been a constant in my life. Losing my mom and later my fiancé, Danny, left me without faith, hope, love, or a connection to God, engulfed in darkness. My sister termed it complicated grief, as I struggled to cope with these losses. Eventually, God led me to Alcoholics Anonymous, where sobriety helped me find a healthier way to deal with death. Nine years ago:
"On Monday October 10, 2016, at 5:15 PM, my dad, whom I was very close with, died unexpectedly from a heart attack in the Milwaukee Airport with my two sisters by his side. I spoke to him daily when he lived with my sister JoAnn. When I received that call that evening, I immediately called another alcoholic and went to a 6:30 PM meeting, where I shared my pain and cried to those that were there. I was able to grieve in a healthy way, not the way I grieved with Mom and Danny" insert from my memoir, "Shake the Dust Off Your Feet and Walk" available on Amazon
Today, I pay tribute to my amazing father. He ran a successful business selling uniforms and equipment to postal workers, and his dedication allowed us all to attend college. He was always loving and supportive, reminding me that when

one door closes, God opens another. I miss him dearly but find comfort knowing he is at peace, joyfully celebrating with my mom in God's presence.
My view on death has evolved to embrace faith, hope, love, and God. As a certified End-of-Life Doula, I support the dying and comfort their families. My memoir, "Shake the Dust Off Your Feet and Walk," available on Amazon, aims to inspire and offer hope to those grieving and facing life's challenges. Please help share this message.
I miss you and love you, Dad. Sending hugs to Mom.
Forever Grateful,
Gina
