Danny's Story

I dedicate this blog to my fiance, Danny. Twelve years ago today, my whole life turned upside down. The man I loved, the man I thought I would spend the rest of my life with, was found dead. My smile was wiped away. It seemed like yesterday.
“I waited with Jim and Brenda as Danny’s body was removed. The cause of death was apparent: he had fallen and hit his head. He died from the disease of alcoholism. The condition of his body led them to believe he had been dead for days. I was a wreck. I plunged into my own familiar dark place—feelings of fear, sadness, self-pity, and brokenness. Why me? Why Danny? Why us? Jim and Brenda insisted I come home with them.”- insert from my memoir, “Shake the Dust Off Your Feet and Walk”-available on Amazon.
I was lost that day. I gave up on God. I just existed. Losing someone to the disease of alcoholism adds more pain to the grief. Shame and guilt creeps in. It is a stigma in the world. Many do not understand why someone succumbs to this disease. It is a mystery.
As I was searching for the reason why Danny was unable to stay sober, I came to realize that Danny and all men and women who died from alcoholism/addiction are great people who are sick. God loves them so much. They are loved by family and friends. They are all seeking peace and freedom in this life. Danny found his peace twelve years ago when he fell into the arms of his God/Higher Power, where now he is sober and free.
I am thankful to God for Danny. His story brought me into a place of light, hope, faith and sobriety. My memoir, “Shake the Dust Off Your Feet and Walk,” is inspirational for all. It is an excellent read for those battling the disease or know someone who is or feels hopeless. My story is an encouragement of hope and strength. A message to share. Thank you for spreading the word.
Forever grateful,
Gina
