MOMS ARE SPECIAL

Writer: Gina EconomopoulosGina Economopoulos

I am writing this blog in memory of my mom.  Thirty-three years ago today we said goodbye to her.  Unknown to me, it was the beginning of my spiritual journey.

“On that freezing cold January evening,

my mother was at home in a hospital

bed, surrounded with warmth and comfort from six of her children and her faithful husband. We had placed Mom in the television room so that she could greet her family and many friends who walked through the door with her great smile. She had a view of the crucifix on the wall, a picture of Our Blessed Mother by her side, and a rosary in her hand. As her body was failing and riddled with pain, she always smiled and never complained. She looked awful at the end, yet when I looked in her eyes, she was beautiful. I always told her that she was beautiful, even with a bald head and sunken cheeks. Her eyes told a story filled with love for us all.”- insert from my memoir, “Shake the Dust Off Your Feet and Walk”.

It seems like yesterday that I was standing by my mom's side, praying and hoping that she would get up, be healed, and walk again.  Well, that was not Mom's story, she went home to be with God.  Of course, my story did not end there.  From that night forward, I started searching for the meaning of life.  I learned to shake the dust off my feet and walk through trauma, grief, pain, and suffering and came to a place within my heart to find serenity and peace.

I invite you all to read my memoir, “Shake the Dust Off Our Feet and Walk,” on Amazon and walk with me through my spiritual journey. My story is a message of hope and strength for those grieving, struggling in their spiritual journey, or simply searching for the meaning of life.

Today I am grateful for my mom, for her death, and for being with me on my spiritual journey to freedom and love.  Moms are special.  I miss you, mom.  Rest in God's peace. Give a hug to Dad.

Forever Grateful,

Gina
