As I write my fourth blog post since the publication of my memoir, I am discovering that being an author and promoting my book has been a significant challenge. My memoir, “Shake the Dust Off Your Feet and Walk,” available on Amazon, conveys a message of hope and strength that many need to hear. I have opened my heart to share my pain, suffering, detailing my personal journey going from darkness to light. I am actively promoting it, spreading the message to
others that those may find comfort through my book and my sharing.
Since its publication, I have learned many life lessons, particularly about patience and trust. I have actively promoted my book by hanging up flyers, organizing author events, and visiting bookstores, churches, and coffee shops in hopes of garnering support. However, the results have not been as promising as I had anticipated. I hosted four events; some quite successful, while others were disappointing, with no attendees. Then, a realization struck me: The primary
purpose of writing my book was for my own personal journey. Yes it would be nice for people to attend my events, have support, and be liked on my media postings. I know now those are secondary to why I wrote my memoir.
God has inspired me and healed me through it all; He is the ultimate promoter of our story. God knows exactly what I need. I have heard that life is not a sprint but a marathon. As I run this author marathon with God, I am growing in trust and patience. I will continue to shake the dust off my feet and walk forward to spread my message.
I invite each of you to share my message of hope with someone today.
With a grateful heart,
Gina
